I’m excited to be one of the presenters at the inaugural Whitehorse Worship Arts Festival and Contemplative Retreat this July alongside some amazing folk. It’ll be my first time in Yukon on the traditional and contemporary territories of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council and the Kwanlin Dün First Nation.
Check out all the details here: https://www.worshipartsfest.ca/ – and consider coming along.
Here’s my workshop description:
Standing on the Shoulders of Giants:
Spiritual Practices for Change and Resistance
The world is a mess. Drawing on the wisdom of both Christian monastics and spiritual movements for social change, we’ll explore how rooted inner work is an essential foundation for us ordinary folk who wish to be active witnesses of love, grace, truth and justice in times of violence, oppression and disruption.
We’ll engage living practitioners such as Adrienne Maree Brown, Chung Hyun Kyung,Tricia Hersey and Prentice Hemphill – as well as the often overlooked spiritual practices of 20th century Christian activist forebears such as Dorothy Day, Martin Luther King Jr., Thomas Merton, Howard Thurman and St. Oscar Romero.
We’ll chant a psalm and sing a spiritual or two, breathe, sit in silence – and seek to support each other in aspirations to rest, sabbath-keep, take naps, pray a daily office, go on retreat, chant, or use prayer beads as part of our sustainable rhythm of contemplation and action.
