explore rob shearer’s musical journey and inspirations

this section offers a listen into rob’s music.

expect his current electronic, activist and worship contributions – as well as some old rare & raw stuff from the Spirogr*ph Versificometer (1990s electronic) and The Lion and Bunny Cult (1990s garage/alternative).

you’ll also hear about rob’s love of African-American gospel, ambient / electronic, worship / church music, 80’s alternative rock-pop, old timey, Canadiana/Americana and more.

rob recently posted a list of 30+ of my favourite churchy songs – spiritual songs and hymns – check it out here – and watch for more of these kinds of lists soon.

Old Bands / Electronic PAs

Back in 1995 I was part of Spirogr*ph Versificometer and we made electronic music played live off the floor. Here’s our bandcamp page and self-titled recording.

Before that, throughout high school and early undergrad years, I was part of The Lion and Bunny Cult an alternative/garage rock band (circa 1989-1995). I recently re-mastered some of our earliest demos from an old casette. You can check it out on bandcamp here. Expect more to come when I can get ahold of the tapes…

Playlists

Here’s my AbbeyChurch playlist over 700 curated songs of faith (and doubt) – I keep adding to these.

This is my apocalypse / end of the world music playlist of 200 songs about the end of the world (as we know it)

Call It Democracy 2025 Demo

2025 has seen me re-engage my lament and anger at the state of the world. As part of re-familiarising myself with recording gear and respond to the call to write protest songs, I re-wrote Bruce Cockburn’s “Call It Democracy” to focus on what’s happening in the USA. I did that early this year and already the images and words seem soft and already dated compared to what is actually happening. This is just a demo, but I thought I’d share it here. I’m grateful to the amazing and legendary Opal Dar for collaborating on this with their vocals. Content warning: autocracy, white supremacy and one f-bomb.
